Animation/Emote/Sound & Voice Talent Tree

by aocgold81

Age of Conan has arguably the most realistic, high-end graphics for any MMO, and a low-fantasy setting conducive to real RPing, yet there are few emote animations that the player can use to characterize their player.

I applaud Funcom age of conan gold for focusing their time developing the core mechanics and graphics for a truly great game; I’m going to posit a few suggestions to “flesh it out” with some non-essential material that might make the game more interesting for those that want more to an MMO experience than just end-game and pvp.

I suggest an animation/emote/sound & voice tree like a feat tree where a player can use another set of “character individuality” points to customize different aspects of character’s look, animations, and use of voice & sound tracks in-game.

There could be different “characterization” lines just like feat lines. One could be “appearance”, where the player can further adjust the appearance of their character beyond what they did to create their character, adding different hairstyles, makeup, scars, tattoos, adornments (ribbons, jewelry, piercings, etc.), and civilian clothes. A second line could be animation emotes, with various aspects such as laughing, dancing, threats, cheers, crying, flirting, etc. The third line could be where the commands could initiate various sound and voice tracks; again, it could be praise, admonishments, threats, appreciation, flirting, etc. and music, replete with musical instruments and learning various music tracks to play; Say what you want to about Acheron’s Call 2, but they had a killer music system where everyone could gather around and play music together on different instruments and using different tracks.

I realize this kind of stuff is aoc gold non-essential, but non-essential stuff becomes more important when people tire of, or need to take a break from the core aspects of the game.

Friday Update: And The Winner Is…

by aocgold81

When we started this contest, we couldn’t have anticipated the response that came in.

Hundreds and hundreds of entries poured in. Every community showed an incredible amount of enthusiasm and entries ranged from the sublimely hilarious to the awe-inspiring. Either lots of people really love this game or lots of people really love the idea of Norway in January!

These aoc gold entries were all very, very good and we liked them a lot…

It’s Christmas in Hyboria!

Unlike some jolly Christmas spirits, Santa Gaute demands ransom!

An enterprising railfan found that someone has been breaking the launch date…

There’s another game out there that a lot of people apparently have strong feelings about.

And, yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Gaute. He lives! And he lives in Oslo.

But there can only be one grand prize winner.

The winning entry showcases an incredible amount of work. There is a lot of text floating around about Age of Conan from interviews, articles, and FAQs, but our winning entrant condensed all that into a 15 minute long Visual FAQ that puts everything in one place in handy video. An enterprising type going by the name of Ben Avery put together this video, which showed an incredible amount of effort, passion, and aoc gold time.

Our winner is The Age of Conan Visual FAQ Guide.

And while he may not have intended it for the contest entry, this was also incredibly hilarious.

Congratulations to our winner and our thanks go out to everyone who participated!

Now, just a bit of news.

In order to allow our Community and Marketing staff to spend the holidays with their families, there will be no Friday Updates on December 28 or January 4.

From all of us at Funcom, we wish you the best, and we will be back in the New Year to start the big push to launch. We can’t wait to see you there!

TotheGame Interview

by aocgold81

The folks over at TotheGame.com sat down with Game Director Gaute Godager for the latest on Age of Conan

Here is a little of what they had to say:

“I have to be honest aoc gold , the first moment I heard “Conan” announced; I really thought you guys were going to recreate some sort of Saturday morning cartoon. Looking at the screenshots I can tell I was a bit mistaken. Care to tell me and our readers how far off the track I was and what Hyborian Adventures is really about?

He he, I know many who thought along the same lines as you, but we were never even close to going for that approach. Even though we are drawing on more than 70 years of lore from comics, movies, novels and whatnot, we are taking our main inspiration from the source itself, which is the legacy left behind from Robert E. Howard, the creator of Conan. His tales are full of brutal violence and the promise of a swift death, but also of a world filled to the brim with layers of history, multiple civilizations and a struggling human race where the wild and “modern” meets head on. So, we have tried to tell a much bigger story than just that of Conan the barbarian, but of the entire Hyborian age itself, and its multitude of people.

When it comes to the lands you can experience in the game we have singled out three nations to begin with, namely Cimmeria, Stygia and Aquilonia. Cimmeria is the homeland of Conan, and a wild and inhospitable place filled with deep forests, wild mountains and large valleys (almost like Norway I would say;). Stygia is like a twisted evil version of ancient Egypt, and the flora and fauna is reminiscent of that of Northern Africa. In Stygia all sorts of foul things are at play, and the lands are filled aoc gold with ancient and incredibly evil magic. Aquilonia is the mightiest of the nations of Hyboria, and at its throne as king sits Conan. Aquilonia can be likened to a combination of ancient Greece and the Roman empire, and its land are diverse and beautiful. In total we are building more than 30 regions inside these three countries in which you can explore, fight, socialize, build, trade and have a “jolly good time”, all the while merrily decapitating the enemy of course;).”
